Chelsea feel that it is only a matter of time before Wayne Rooney leaves Manchester United and comes to Stamford Bridge, the Daily Mirror reports.

However, it is unlikely that the player will be ready to play for Chelsea at Old Trafford in their match against United on August 26th.

The Blues recently upped their offer to £24 million having had a £20 million bid rejected by the Red Devils last week and feel that they can sign the striker for around £30 million, despite United repeatedly stating that the player isn’t for sale.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has made Rooney his number one transfer target for this summer and the Blues board are confident that the striker will never wear a Manchester United shirt again.

The Red Devils are currently chasing Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Bale and if they are successful in signing the pair, they will sell Rooney, claiming that the two midfielders are an upgrade on the England striker.

Chelsea feel that United have no option but to sell Rooney before the end of the transfer window and are willing to wait until the final days of the summer to get their man.
