Gunners set to make move for Swansea defender.
Arsenal could be set to make a move for Swansea’s Ashley Williams after Laurent Koscielny went down with injury during the club’s pre-season tour to Japan according to The Metro.
The French centre-back was an integral part of the Arsenal team last season and it was his partnership with Per Mertesacker during the final run-in that helped Arsenal pip Spurs to a Champions League place by a single point.
But Koscielny has reportedly picked up an ankle injury that is likely to leave the club short of options at the back.
Sebastien Squillaci was released from the club at the end of last season while Johann Djourou has already been sent out to Hambury on a season long loan deal. Club captain Thomas Vermaelen is expected to miss the next three months with a back problem, leaving Per Mertesacker as Arsene Wenger’s only fit centre-back.
Arsenal have previously made a move for Swansea, only for the Welsh club to turn down their advances.
It is understood the Swans want at least £10 million for the player, who was in integral part of the team that went on to beat Bradford 4-0 and lift the League Cup.
Arsenal had previously hoped to persuade Swansea to drop their price but it now appears that the injury crisis may force their hand.
