Liverpool have reportedly made an €21m (£18m) bid for Ajax youngster Christian Eriksen and are closing in on a deal to sign the Danish international with Italian source TuttoMercatoWeb claiming that the playmaker has agreed personal terms with the Anfield side.

Brendan Rodgers has already welcomed in four new additions to his Liverpool squad but had been strongly linked with interest in Shakhtar Donestk attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who subsequently joined Borussia Dortmund, indicating that the Northern Irishman was keen to bring in a creative midfield talent this summer.

Rodgers is seemingly keen to add creative talents to freshen up his midfield and could see Eriksen as a possible long term successor to Steven Gerrard and a player he can build his young side around.

The presence of close friend, and national team colleague, Daniel Agger at the Merseyside club could well be a motivating factor that could see Eriksen elect a move to Liverpool ahead of other potential suitors.

Christian Eriksen has made 157 appearances in all competitions for Ajax, scoring 30 goals and providing 40 assists in Eredivisie action alone.

Having helped his Amsterdam based side to three successive domestic titles the former Brondby youth team player may well be ready to consider a new challenge.
