Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie would welcome Cesc Fabregas arrival at Old Trafford as speculation mounts that Barcelona maybe considering accepting the Red Devils bid for the midfielder, Goal.com reports.

The Premier League Champions have submitted a £26 million offer to Barcelona for Fabregas but have yet to hear anything from the Spanish Champions, raising optimism inside Old Trafford that they may have been successful with their first bid.

When asked whether he would welcome Fabregas to United, Van Persie said, “Of course, he’s a great player.”

However, he did also say that he hasn’t been in contact with his former Arsenal team mate.

While publicly Barcelona are stating that they don’t want to sell Fabregas, it is believed that in private they are considering United’s offer, believing that selling Fabregas would enable them to lower their wage bill considerably.

Fabregas has spent most of the summer saying that he wants to stay in Catalonia but in private it is believed that the player is considering his options following two frustrating seasons at the Nou Camp where he has struggled to hold down a regular spot in Barca’s first team.

United turned their attentions to Fabregas having missed out on another Barcelona player, Thiago Alcantara, who moved to Bayern Munich.
