Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been impressed with the pre-season performance of striker Romelu Lukaku and will be happy to start the player in next month’s Premier League games according to The Guardian.

Lukaku spent last season out on loan at West Bromwich Albion, where he had a highly impressive season and finished as the club’s top goalscorer.

WBA boss Steve Clarke was desperate to bring Lukaku in for another year but the player found himself recalled to Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese boss has been keen to give everyone a chance to prove themselves and it appears that Mourinho likes what he has seen so far with regards to Lukaku.

With Chelsea already having two strikers in their squad in the shape of Demba Ba and Fernando Torres, as well as their very public pursuit of Wayne Rooney, there had been suggestions that Lukaku might receive limited pitch time at the club.

That would be of concern to Lukaku in the year leading up to the World Cup as he is keen to establish himself in the Belgian national team.

Should the club be successful in their pursuit of Rooney though, it is unlikely Mourinho will keep all four strikers and that could pave the way for a Stamford Bridge exit for either Ba or Torres.
