Liverpool are reportedly set to beat Tottenham in the race to sign highly rated Valencia forward Roberto Soldado according to talkSPORT.

Andre Villas-Boas had been seemingly closing on a deal to sign the 28 year old Spanish international but the North London club’s offer of £24m was not enough to persuade the Mestalla side to sell their star striker, leading to director of football Franco Baldini abandoning talks with the La Liga side.

Liverpool are however set to meet the club’s asking price with a £26m offer on its way to Valencia as Brendan Rodgers looks to continue his Anfield squad re-building job.

Soldado has impressed since his move from Getafe to Valencia three years ago, scoring 81 goals in 141 appearances for Valencia. The former Real Madrid man may well be keen to secure a high profile move that could help to secure a more prominent role in Vicente del Bosque’s Spanish national team set-up.

A move for Soldado may well lead some to wonder if Liverpool are readying a move to sell want-away Uruguayan Luis Suarez as Rodgers already has the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Fabio Borini and new signings Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas to turn to as back-up and support options for the prolific Anfield star.
