Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Fiorentina have agreed a deal to sign talented play maker Josip Illcic from Serie B side Palermo this summer, Sky Sports reports.

The 25-year-old becomes the club’s third major signing of the transfer window after they brought in Mario Gomez from Bayern Munich and Massimo Ambrosini, who was released by AC Milan.

The Slovenian international had been a target for both Chelsea and Liverpool in recent weeks, but the Viola have sought to move quickly after the player admitted that he wanted to stay in Italy should he leave the Sicilian club.

Palermo saw themselves slip down to Serie B last season, but Illcic impressed by scoring 11 goals in 32 league and cup matches, and though no fee has been mentioned yet, new Palermo boss Gennaro Gattuso had been believed to be looking for somewhere in the region of €10 million to prize him away from the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

A statement on Fiorentina’s official website read: “Fiorentina and Palermo announce they have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Josip Ilicic. The agreement is subject to the player signing his contract.”

Last season it had been thought that Roma had agreed a deal in principle to land his signature, but Fiorentina have done well to steal in and bring him to Tuscany.
