AS Monaco have spent vast sums improving their newly promoted Ligue 1 squad and have now set their sights on Man United winger Nani with the principality club already in talks with the 26 year old according to L’Equipe.

The Portuguese international is now little more than a bit part player, who last term managed just seven Premier League starts with the likes of Luis Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck all ahead of the wide-man in the Man United pecking order.

The arrival of Wilfried Zaha will seemingly reduce Nani to an even more limited role and therefore a move to cash rich Monaco would surely tempt the former Sporting Lisbon man.

Monaco should be more than able to meet Nani’s reported £6m a year wage demands and Man United are thought to want £8.5m for the experienced attacker, who has just a year to run on his current contract.

Nani did successfully force his way from behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s shadow following the £80m man’s move to Real Madrid but over the past couple of seasons he failed to inspire confidence from then boss Sir Alex Ferguson, perhaps David Moyes is willing to give the winger a second chance to impress?

AS Monaco have brought in the likes of Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho, Eric Abidal, Ricardo Carvalho and James Rodriguez to the tune of £120m plus.
