Liverpool owner John W Henry has let Arsenal know exactly what he thinks about the north London club’s latest offer of £40 million plus a further £1 for unsettled Reds front man Luis Suarez by tweeting: “What do you think they’re smoking over there at Emirates?”, reports the Daily Mail.

The Gunners lodged a third bid for the controversial Uruguay international on Tuesday night after previous offers of £25m and then £35m for the forward were flatly rejected out of hand by the Merseyside giants, whose head coach Brendan Rodgers has already made clear that the Reds value Suarez at the same price as his compatriot Edinson Cavani, who recently left Napoli for Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth a whopping £55m.

However, the Gunners’ most recent bid has activated the release clause in Suarez’s current deal at Anfield, meaning that Liverpool are now duty bound to inform the player of the offer from the Emirates, although the club’s American owners, the Fenway Sports Group (FSG) , are not forced to sell Suarez for that price.

And with the 26-year-old contracted to Liverpool until the summer of 2018 and having registered an eye-catching 51 goals and 24 assists in just 96 matches for the Reds since January 2011, FSG are understood to only be willing to enter into negotiations for Suarez when a bid of at least £50m is received for the Uruguayan.
