Arsenal are set to sell winger Gervinho to Roma and will then use that money to make a move for Swansea defender Ashley Williams, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Italian club have offered the Gunners £6.5 million for Gervinho, who has been at the Emirates for two years and so far hasn’t made an impact at the club.

The Gunners signed Gervinho for £11 million and will lose £4.5 million by selling the winger for a reduced price but Arsene Wenger feels that the player needs a fresh start at another club.

With the money they make from the Gervinho sale, Arsenal may renew their interest in Swansea captain Ashley Williams.

The Gunners will miss both Thomas Vermaelen and Nacho Monreal at the start of the season due to injury and Wenger may move for Williams as cover for his captain.

Wenger was interested in Williams at the start of the transfer window but Swansea demanded £10 million for their captain, an amount the Frenchman was unwilling to pay.

However, Swansea’s resolve may have softened and reports suggest that they will sell the defender to a top club for about £8.5 million, with Williams keen to move to a bigger club while he is at his best.
