Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is urging new director of football Joe Kinnear to show his prowess in the transfer market and sign some players, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Magpies have yet to sign any players this summer despite Pardew wanting the club to bring in a quality striker and the former West Ham boss admits that he is on Kinnear’s case to get some business done.

“I’m pushing Joe to get a transfer in,” said Pardew

“We need a boost now. We’re in a situation where we want to progress. Gomis is a player who would suit us, and we should pursue it as strongly as we can.”

Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis but they face competition from Tottenham for the talented front-man.

Darren Bent is also another player that is on Newcastle’s radar, with Aston Villa thought to be demanding £5 million for the former England international.

However, Newcastle also have competition for Bent’s signature, with newly promoted Hull City and Fulham thought to be in the hunt for the striker.

It seems that Kinnear may have to move fast in order to bring in Pardew’s two main targets this summer.
