Misfiring Arsenal front man Olivier Giroud says that he would welcome the signing of Liverpool forward Luis Suarez this summer, despite the Uruguayan potentially being brought to the Emirates to replace him, reports the Daily Mirror.

The north London club have already had two official bids for the Reds’ mercurial attacker turned down by the Merseyside giants, although the Gunners’ second more recent offer of £40 million plus a pound for the 26-year-old has allowed the club to start negotiations with the player over a potential move to the capital.

However, either way the France international says that he is not concerned about potentially losing his place up front in the team if Suarez does eventually complete his protracted move to the Emirates, with Giroud actually encouraging the striker to join him at Arsenal.

“I think we need maybe two or three more players. Yes, that’s what we need. To show ambition,” said Giroud.

“The club has to show the fans that we want it. Me and my team mates, we need it as well. It’s all about the team. It will be a really positive thing if we have a new striker.

“I am not worried but I will wait until September so we know the team, the players. I never used to read the newspapers and I don’t want to change my way of life but I have heard a lot of things and I know we need a striker.

“The most important thing is the team. We are waiting for one but we don’t know. I think it will be good for the team and for me as well to have another striker, to have more competition between us.

“But I think I could play with him or without him. So I will be able to be in the first XI this season. I really want to be in the first XI this season but we will see.”

Giroud himself has only been at Arsenal for a little over a year now, with the 26-year-old having joined the Gunners from Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier last June for a fee of £9.6m.

And it is fair to say that in his debut campaign in the capital, the centre forward often struggled at times, despite seemingly impressive stats in front of goal of 17 strikes and 11 assists in his 47 matches for the club.

However, after displaying great form during preseason, the Frenchman is now relishing the chance to play alongside Suarez for the Gunners in the upcoming campaign.
