Check in to Sunderland vs Fulham

Cardiff City have become the latest club to express an interest in troubled West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie, Sky Sports reports.

The Russian-born Nigerian international has been training with the Baggies development squad this summer after his antics during the January transfer window have made him persona non grata at the club and he has been told that he is surplus to requirements at the Hawthornes.

Fulham have been linked with a move for the 32-year-old whilst Dubai club Al Nasr recently had an £850,000 bid rejected, and now Cardiff are reportedly ready to make an approach.

The Welsh side have already seen their spending reach the £20 million mark this summer following on from the signings of Steven Caulker and Andreas Cornelius.

But Manager Malky Mackay has insisted that the club’s spending is set to continue as they look to strengthen their squad enough to sustain their debut season in the Premier League.

“We still have three or four irons in the fire and we have until September 2nd (when the transfer window closes),” said Mackay.

“We may well start the season still chasing targets but by the end of August I hope to have the squad together than can absolutely compete.”
