Anfield side target Brazilian as potential replacement for want-away striker Luis Suarez.
Liverpool have reportedly made a £21.5million bid for Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa, according to Punto Pelota.
The bid would be enough to trigger the release clause of the forward, who is expected to lead the Madrid line in the absence of Radamel Falcao, who has now joined AS Monaco. Having failed in their bid to sign Roberto Soldado from Valencia, the Reds are looking for an insurance policy on wanted striker Luis Suarez, and are keen to bring in Costa should they receive a bid in excess of £50million for Luis Suarez.
The Madrid-based side have already lost their star man Falcao this summer, and are unwilling to let go of now main-man Diego Costa. Having already brought in Leo Bapistao and David Villa as attacking options this summer, Costa’s exit may not hit as hard as some might imagine. The 27-year old is keen to open talks with the Reds as they reportedly activated his release clause.
The Brazilian’s arrival at Anfield hinges on the exit of Luis Suarez, as a potential move to Arsenal stalls. However, Sports Direct News are reporting that ‘a deal is done’ to sell Luis Suarez to either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich this summer.
Should the Uruguayan leave this summer, the Reds will only have Daniel Sturridge, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto as attacking options, none of which are of genuine world class quality, or are reliable Premier League goal scorers. With the potential arrival of Diego Costa, they would be gaining an experienced forward who is clinical in the box, giving the Reds a real chance of a Top 4 finish.
