The CaughtOffside 50: The Best Footballers In the World Today

40. Mario Balotelli

It’s been a strange old season for Super Mario, having gone from being the perennial Enfant Terrible under Roberto Mancini at Manchester City to king of Milano with AC, the sometimes troublesome forward can be forgiven for not knowing whether he’s coming or going.

However, there is a sense that he is finally starting to mature. Evidenced slightly at last summers European Championships, he had found himself left out of the starting XI by Cesare Prandelli, gone were the jokes and smiles as he sulked on the bench, only for him to return shortly after to scroe in the next game amidst wild celebrations.

His choices can still be a little suspect, but now we have seen that he can be the player everyone knows he can be when he puts his all into doing so.

A poor start to the Premier League season saw him bag just one goal, though constant disagreements with Mancini could have led to his downfall at Eastlands, though a quick fire 12 goals in 13 games for Milan shows that he is still a world class striker.
