The CaughtOffside 50: The Best Footballers In the World Today

36. Stevan Jovetic

It wasn’t long ago that the Montenegrin international was just a gangly teenager with a funny haircut. However, last season saw him complete his metamorphosis into one of the classiest and most sought after strikers in Europe.

His goals and assists have been instrumental in helping Fiorentina qualify for the Europa League – heartbreakingly two points short of making it into the Champions League, the original goal he had set out to achieve.

Alongside fellow Balkan born attacker Adem Ljajic, he terrorised Serie A defences with their combination of well times runs, creative ability and, crucially, eye for goal.

His big money move to Manchester City this summer will surely add some sorely missed silverware to his own personal trophy cabinet, and the fee that new coach Manuel Pellegrini paid for him is nothing if not a show of faith in the player’s ability.
