The CaughtOffside 50: The Best Footballers In the World Today

28. Robert Lewandowski

For the second season running the Polish international has confirmed himself as one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards.

Dortmund may have had a disappointing campaign but the 24-year-old did all that he could to keep Bayern at bay by notching 36 times in 49 appearances, but sadly it wasn’t enough as they ended the season empty handed.

However, he created plenty of Kodak moments for himself despite the team’s failings, most notably his breath taking brace against Real Madrid in the semi final of the Champions League and those two goals helped him finish as the competition’s second highest goalscorer behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

Borussia have so far resisted the urge to cash in on him now, but that means he will be able to talk away for free next summer when his contract expires. Reports have linked him with a move to Bayern Munich, following in the footsteps of former teammate Mario Gotze. If true then Bayern will quite possible have grabbed the bargain of the century as he is now proven in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
