The CaughtOffside 50: The Best Footballers In the World Today

Posted by

25. Arturo Vidal

The Chilean won his place in the CaughtOffside 50 by excelling in the centre of midfield for Juventus to become one of Europe’s best performing midfielders, scoring a creating goals in equal measure.

He was the club’s top scorer in all competitions, which is extraordinary considering his position and who he plays alongside in Turin, and even more so when you consider that scoring goals was not his primary function in the side. His primary job was to protect the back four and win the ball back, but his drive through the middle saw him make the most tackles in the early stages of the Champions League as well as be the hero by hitting the back of the net so regularly.

Vidal is a warrior too, dragging his side through an encounter with Chelsea whilst barely being able to run and his influence was sorely missed in the quarter final defeat to Bayern Munich.

Often overshadowed by his midfield partner Andrea Pirlo, Vidal was just as vital to the club’s Scudetto win as anyone else, and it is of little surprise that Real Madrid have come knocking with a big money offer.
