21. David Luiz
Since signing a new deal with the club in September the Brazilian defender-cum-midfielder has been one of the brightest sparks in the Chelsea squad and has now set the bar high in terms of personal performances.
Starting of the campaign at the heart of the defence, he quickly proved that he is a more than capable defensive midfielder, further adding another dimension into the club’s repertoire.
Furthermore, he had goals in him, and not just tap ins either. A freekick in the early stages of the Champions League was capped off with wonder strikes against Fulham and Basle later on in the season as well as notching a free kick against Aston Villa during the 8-0 thrashing on boxing day.
There’s a good chance that he would feature higher in the CaughtOffside 50 had he not showed a darkside to his game against Manchester United where he went down easily under a challenge from Rafael. He was then seen to smile and laugh at the nearby crowd, which caused anger and drew him some significant criticism.
