The CaughtOffside 50: The Best Footballers In the World Today

16. Andres Iniesta

There was a time when a list such as the CaughtOffside 50 would have been peppered with Barcelona players, but sadly Iniesta is just one third of Catalan based attackers who have made the cut.

Iniesta was the club’s main creative force from the middle this season in what has been a turbulent year. Having lost both coach and captain for prolonged stretches, and with key players not performing to their best, the club have had to rely on the 29-year-old for more inspiration on his own and rather than as a unit.

However, that didn’t phase the Spanish international, who rose to the challenge without thinking twice as he contributed with an amazing 22 assists in all competitions to help the club cruise to the title once again.

His prowess didn’t fail to deplete either come the summer as he finished second behind Neymar in the voting for the Confederations Cup’s best player, even though Spain were uncharacteristically poor for a change.
