The CaughtOffside 50: The Best Footballers In the World Today

Posted by

12. Thomas Muller

The penultimate Bayern Munich player in the CaughtOffside 50, and he could not be more worthy of his place on the list after only making his breakthrough in 2009.

The 22-year-old was a part of the devastating attacking quartet that also included Franck Ribery, Toni Kroos, and Arjen Robben that saw him collect 23 goals and 17 assists of his own.

And similarly to Robben, he discovered he had the uncanny ability to score when it really mattered, managing to grab goals in every Champions League knockout round up until the showpiece final – including home and away in the 7-0 thrashing of Barcelona – as well as in the DFB-Pokal final.

He has also continued to establish himself further in the German national side, and will be expected to be a part of the squad for next year’s World Cup – that’s if he can cement a regular starting spot in the Bayern squad for the coming season.

Quick, blessed with great technique and and an astute tactical maturity, there isn’t much doubt that Muller will be warming any benches anytime soon.
