The CaughtOffside 50: The Best Footballers In the World Today

4. Franck Ribery

The final and highest ranking Bayern Munich player in the CaughtOffside 50 is perhaps the most deserving thanks to his personal contribution to the club’s treble winning season.

Ribery has endured both good and bad times on and off the pitch in recent years, but last season’s exploits should have more than made up for the low moments, especially after being written off by critics as being past his sell by date.

However, at just 30-years of age he has enjoyed arguably his best season yet as he recaptured the form that once had him listed as one of the most electric players in Europe.

He was Bayern’s most consistent attacking player across the board last season and was an unrelenting creative force cutting inside from the left flank and his 23 assists were only bettered by Chelsea’s Juan Mata – who played considerably more games than the Frenchman.

He has it all to do again next season, though, if he hopes to come away with a higher finish in the next instalment of the CaughtOffside 50, and it will be interesting to see just what Pep Guardiola has in stall for him.
