43. Alvaro Negredo

Sevilla aren’t exactly a small club, but it is hard to grab headlines in Spain when you don’t play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid. However, the 27-year-old managed to do just that by becoming the highest scoring Spanish player in La Liga last term.

Nicknamed ‘the beast’ for his tenacity in and around the penalty box, his 31 goals across all competitions meant that the Andalusian side remained in the consciousness of the casual Spanish football observer.

Those goals have also earned him a £16.5 million move to Manchester City this summer, thus helping to ease the Spanish side’s financial crisis, but his continued exclusion from the national side is baffling.

Obviously capable of scoring at the highest level, he will be hoping his move to the Premier League club will give him the chance to show what he is able to do in Elite European competition in what is an important year for players with international aspirations everywhere.
