Tottenham have been given a real boost in their apparent pursuit of Real Madrid wide-man Fabio Coentrao with the Portuguese international reportedly very keen on moving to White Hart Lane according to the Daily Star.

Andre Villas-Boas is said to be an admirer of the attack minded full-back who has struggled for form since moving to the Bernabeu back in 2011.

Tottenham could well do with a new left-sided defender with Benoit Assou-Ekotto not impressing in the role though Villas-Boas can also call upon Belgian Jan Vertonghen the former Ajax man is far more effective in his preferred position at centre-back.

As this source points out, Gareth Bale is seemingly likely to move to the Bernabeu so perhaps Coentrao could be used as a makeweight in any such deal, Real Madrid valuing the former Benfica man at £20m.

Carlo Ancelotti may well feel he can afford to cash-in on Coentrao as Brazilian Marcelo is now fully recovered from injury concerns that blighted his availability last season.

Chelsea are also thought to be keen on Coentrao with boss Jose Mourinho keen on reuniting with his former Real Madrid charge as a potential long term replacement for Ashley Cole.
