Barcelona are ready to make a £15m offer for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger as a back-up plan should their move for Chelsea’s David Luiz fail according to the Daily Mail.

The Catalan side are urgently seeking defensive reinforcements, having just Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol to call upon as out and out central defensive options of any real quality, but Liverpool are sure to fight off interest in Danish international Agger.

Though the 28 year old has struggled with knocks and injuries during his Anfield career the uncompromising defender has been a hugely consistent performer over the past 18 months or so and with Jamie Carragher hanging up his boots and boss Brendan Rodgers seemingly frozen out Martin Skrtel from first team selection for much of the second half of 2012/13 Daniel Agger is far too important a member of the Merseyside club’s squad to consider any offer from the La Liga champions.

Agger is a big fan favourite at Liverpool and appears very committed to the cause, stating in May;

“I still have three years left and I intend to fulfil them”

Agger moved to Liverpool back in January 2006 and has made a total of 209 appearances for the club.
