Wayne Rooney has spent Thursday training with Manchester United’s reserve team, moving him closer to the exit door at Old Trafford, Goal.com reports.

The striker arrived at the clubs Carrington training ground earlier this morning with agent Paul Stretford and was informed by manager David Moyes that he would be spending the day with the reserves.

The striker is said to be furious at this decision and although he completed the training session he is now considering handing in a transfer request.

This comes amidst reports suggesting that Chelsea will offer United a third bid for Rooney shortly, having had their previous bids rejected by the Red Devils.

Rooney is determined to leave Old Trafford this summer following a falling out with the clubs hierarchy.

He is especially unhappy with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who announced that Rooney had submitted a transfer request at the end of last season.

Rooney denies this and feels that he can’t make a fresh start to his career with Ferguson still at the club as a director on the United board.

The news that Rooney is training with reserves will only heighten speculation that he is set to end his nine year stay at Old Trafford.

Publicly, David Moyes has said that Rooney isn’t for sale but privately, the Scot is thought to be angry at the England international’s attempts to engineer an exit from the club.
