Fulham are understood to be interested in signing Queens Park Rangers midfield player Esteban Granero this summer, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The highly rated former Spain Under-21 international has only been at Loftus Road for just under a year now, having originally been brought to west London from Spanish giants Real Madrid last August on a four-year deal worth £9 million by previous QPR head coach Mark Hughes.

However, it is fair to say that the 26-year-old did not live up to expectations in the capital in his debut campaign in England, registering just the one goal and one assist in his 27 matches for the strugglers in all competitions, both of which arrived in his 24 Premier League outings for the club.

But with QPR suffering relegation to the Championship come the end of the previous campaign under Hughes’s replacement in the Loftus Road dugout, Harry Redknapp, the club are now attempting to offload as many high earners from the wage bill as possible during the summer transfer window as they prepare for life outside the top flight next season.

And one of those players is understood to be Granero, with Cottagers boss Martin Jol hopeful of being able to tie up a cut-price deal for the Spaniard before the window closes on Sept 2.
