Man United are readying a mammoth bid for Tottenham attacker Gareth Bale as David Moyes looks to beat Real Madrid to the punch in the pursuit of the Welsh international.

CaughtOffside understands that Man United are ready to offer as much as £70m, as well as the addition of winger Nani, in exchange for the 24 year old, with the Premier League title holders looking to bring in a ‘Marquee’ signing this summer as something of a statement of intent from a club that has seen it’s figurehead, Sir Alex Ferguson, retire from his post at the Old Trafford helm.

Perhaps tellingly Man United are still to fill the iconic number seven shirt for the coming season and though there has been some speculation about a proposed move to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo it appears that Moyes has personally set his stall out for White Hart Lane attacker Gareth Bale.

Man United will look to make the most of the uncertainty caused by Real Madrid’s apparent interest in Bale by stating their interest in the former Southampton man, crucially Moyes is ready to make a concrete formal offer, which as yet has not been forthcoming from the La Liga side and the tactics employed by the Spanish giants may have angered Tottenham sufficiently to leave the North London club more willing to deal with their Premier League rivals.

Moyes is likely to sanction the sale of Wayne Rooney this month, with the Scot being of the opinion that there is little merit in keeping hold of a player who appears to have his heart set on leaving the club. This probable departure will leave Man United short of goal-scoring options and a move for Bale could be with a view to using the Tottenham man in a floating attacking role as opposed to being used strictly out on the left-wing.

Man United will hope that the allure of following in the footsteps of boyhood idol Ryan Giggs will further tempt the Cardiff born youngster into pushing for a Tottenham exit, culminating perhaps in an official transfer request that could signal the beginning of a bidding war for the player.

Bale had an outstanding season in 2012/13, scoring 26 goals in all competitions and winning the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year awards.

David Moyes will hope that the added inclusion of long term Tottenham target Nani will serve as an effective sweetener with Andre Villas-Boas known to be an admirer of the Portuguese international.

The 26 year old has been used in a limited role in recent seasons and the arrival of Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace has seemingly all but ended Nani’s Man United career.
