Barcelona’s Daniel Alves has urged Chelsea defender David Luiz to join him at the Nou Camp according to Goal.com.

The Catalan giants have been strongly linked with a move for Luiz as they look to bring in replacement for the ageing Carlos Puyol.

Puyol has been hit by injuries in recent seasons persuading the club of the need to bring in fresh blood.

The club remain keen though on bringing in a player who would be able to fit into the Barcelona style of football.

That has prompted the club to identify Luiz as the man for the job with the Spanish side already having made a bid for the centre-back.

That was promptly turned down by Chelsea, but it is thought that Jose Mourinho does not rate Luiz that highly and could be persuaded to sell should an improved offer come in.

Alves has acknowledged Barcelona face a tough task if they are to bring Luiz to the Nou Camp but has claimed that he would welcome his Brazilian compatriot with open arms.

Alves went on to say that Luiz is not just a friend to him but is also a player of impressive ability at the same time.
