Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has moved to pour cold water on speculation that Wayne Rooney could be set to leave the club according to Goal.com.

Rooney missed his side’s Community Shield victory over Wigan on Sunday, prompting further rumours that he could be on the verge of a move away from Old Trafford.

But that has been denied by Vidic, who has played down any talk of dressing room unrest at the club.

Vidic has questioned why any player would want to leave Manchester United as he considers htem to be the biggest club in the world. The centre-back went on to point out that all of the game’s biggest players want to play for United.

Rooney has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks after reportedly becoming unhappy at having to play second-choice to Robin Van Persie.

United boss David Moyes has admitted that Rooney is only indispensable should Van Persie get injured, angering the former Everton striker and persuading him his future lies elsewhere.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is a firm admirer of Rooney and has made him his sole summer transfer target.

The Stamford Bridge side are preparing to make a third bid for the England star after seeing their two previous offers rejected.
