Rumours are abound that Arsenal will seal the deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo on Thursday, with talks set to be agreed on the Brazilian’s return from international duty.

According to the Metro The 26 year old’s agent has confirmed that the battling utility player, who can also play at centre-back, will make a decision on his future on Thursday and has already been very vocal in his praise for the North London club, stating;

‘I have heard about the Arsenal interest. It’s a big club we’re talking about here so of course I’d like to play for them.’

‘Arsenal play an attractive brand of football and are in the Champions League. They also have a very clever manager in Arsene Wenger.’

‘Even when Bayern beat them in the last Champions League [on away goals] you could see they are not pushovers.’

Goal.com have stated that Bayern Munich have accepted a £17.2m bid from the Emirates Stadium side so all the signs point to an imminent deal. Though clearly a number of high profile players have already been strongly linked with a move to join the Gunners during this transfer window, it does seem that on this occasion Arsene Wenger may finally be set to spend money on a summer addition.

Gustavo started less than half of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga fixtures last season and saw Javi Martinez regularly get the nod as first choice defensive midfielder under Jupp Heyneckes and there is no evidence to suggest Pep Guardiola will re-think this strategy. Indeed Gustavo wasn’t even named in the Champions League title holder’s squad for their opening domestic league fixture.

The addition of a tough tackling defensively minded midfielder could give the likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta much needed protection as well as time on the ball.
