Tottenham’s hopes of signing Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao have been given a big boast after the Spanish clubs coach Carlo Ancelotti appeared to indicate that the defenders future lies elsewhere, the Daily Star reports.

The Portuguese left back has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer and Ancelotti confirmed that Coentrao wanted to leave the club.

“Coentrão is thinking about leaving, it’s his decision, he’s a very good player,” said the Italian during a press conference.

The defender has also linked with a move to Chelsea, where he is keen to link up with former Real boss Jose Mourinho.

However, Spurs are thought to be more likely to sign Coentrao as he is more likely to get more first team football at White Hart Lane, whereas at Chelsea he will have to compete with Ashley Cole for the left back spot.

While Coentrao looks set to leave Madrid, Ancelotti confirmed that Angel Di Maria and Sami Khedira were in his first team plans for the new season.

“We’re thinking of coming back to America next year. Khedira is happy here and will stay,” Ancelotti added.

“Di Maria will stay, not a single player has the intention of leaving, Real Madrid isn’t a bad place to be.”
