Chelsea are demanding that Barcelona pay £43 million for centre back David Luiz after the La Liga Champions had their opening £21.5 million offer rejected by the Blues, Goal.com reports.

Barcelona have made Luiz their main target this summer, having missed out on Thiago Silva for the second summer in a row.

The Catalan club are desperate to strengthen their defence this summer following several poor defensive displays last season and feel that Luiz would fit in well at the Nou Camp due to his ability on the ball.

However, it is unlikely that Barcelona will willing to pay Chelsea’s valuation, with the club having spent most of their transfer budget on Neymar earlier in the summer.

The Catalan club are looking at other alternatives for Luiz, with the club reportedly having submitted bids for Liverpool’s Daniel Agger and Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen.

Although both players are understood to be interested in a move to the Nou Camp, they are unwilling to force through a move to Spain due to the good relationship that they have with their current clubs.

This means that Barcelona currently face a dead end in their search for a new centre back and may have to look away from the Premier League for their next target.
