Inter Milan appear to be stepping up their interest in Roma striker and Southampton target Pablo Osvaldo, according to Tuttosport.

The Saints were said to be targeting an audacious swoop for the Italy international yesterday, but the 27-year-old now seems likely to stay in Serie A with Inter Milan.

Osvaldo, who was also linked with Liverpool earlier in the summer, has previously played in Serie A for Lecce, Fiorentina and Bologna, as well as in La Liga with Espanyol, and scored 17 goals for Roma last season.

New Inter Milan manager Walter Mazzarri is under pressure to strengthen his squad after a poor 9th place finish in the league last year, and may be willing to pay around £13million for Osvaldo, though the Rome side are said to be holding out for closer to £17million.

Roma could also be braced for a big-money offer for another of their attacking players, with exciting youngster Erik Lamela subject to a £30million bid from Tottenham.

However, Rudi Garcia’s side have brought in players in preparation for some departures, with some good additions in Arsenal forward Gervinho and PSV midfielder Kevin Strootman.
