Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Liverpool are preparing to enter the race to sign Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian according to The Times.

The Brazilian midfielder only recently joined the Russian side having arrived at the club from Shakhtar during the previous January transfer window.

The club have since undergone a change in strategy with the entire playing staff having been put up for sale.

Anzhi are looking to halve their operating budget and that looks likely to involve a quick sale of all the club’s high earners.

That looks set to pave the way for a move for Willian, who cost Anzhi £30 million just six months ago.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is understood to be keen on the Brazilian as he looks to add attacking options to his squad.

Rodgers has previously been frustrated in his attempts to sign an attacking player this summer after seeing Armenia captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan opt to join Bundesliga Dortmund and Diego Costa signing a new contract at Atletico Madrid.

The Liverpool manager insists that it is not a lack of funds that is preventing the club from signing new players but their continued exile from the Champions League.

Tottenham are likely to provide competition for Willian’s signature as the White Hart Lane club showed strong interest in Willian while he was still with Shakhtar.
