Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Tottenham Hotspur are to throw their hat back into the ring in the race to sign Porto winger Christian Atsu, Sky Sports understands.

Spurs had seemingly been thwarted in their pursuit of the Ghanian international earlier this summer but now look to be coming back again for a second chance after he continues to refuse to pen a new deal at the Estadio do Dragao.

Subsequently, because of the contract row, Atsu has found himself frozen out of the squad in Portugal and the champions are now thought to be ready to sell him if the right offer comes along, rather than face losing him for nothing when his contract expires next summer.

Liverpool are also thought to have had a bid for the wide man rejected during the early stages of the transfer window, but Spurs are now keen to try their luck once again.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is a known fan of the 21-year-old, having handed him his debut whilst in charge of Porto, and with the future of Gareth Bale still uncertain, a move for a left sided player he know’s how to get the best out of would be high on his list of priorities.

Atsu, who is set to feature for Ghana in a friendly against Turkey this week, had previously indicated he would like to play in the Premier League and Spurs have been encouraged to make a move for him, with Porto now resigned to selling him for a cut price fee.
