Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso appears to be on his way out of Real Madrid, and could be heading for Serie A side Fiorentina, according to Forza Italian Football.

The 31-year-old’s future has come under much speculation this summer as talks have stalled with the Spanish giants over a new contract, and it appears that he does not feature in the plans of new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

This has seen Alonso linked several times with a return to Liverpool, as well as to their Premier League rivals Chelsea, however, it now seems more likely that he will opt for a move to Italy with Fiorentina.

La Viola have money to spend this summer after the big-money sale of striker Stevan Jovetic to Manchester City, and have been linked with moves for several midfielders, including another Spaniard Esteban Granero.

With the QPR man seemingly heading to Real Sociedad, Alonso is now the Italians’ main target, as he looks increasingly likely to bring his four-year stay at the Bernabeu to an end.

Alonso has over 100 caps for Spain in a glittering career, and helped Real Madrid to the league title in the 2011/12 season. He is also a Champions League winner from his time at Liverpool.
