Weakened side get of to a flying start

Tony Popovic’s side ran out 3-1 winners against Canberra Olympic, with the coach opting for a more experimental line-up for the pre-season clash.

The two sides were locked at 1-1 until the introduction of Shinji Ono, the 33-year-old Japanese midfielder proved the difference between the two sides in the end.

Tomi Juric and Mark Bridge both found the net in the last ten minutes, giving Wanderers the scoreline they deserved.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Popovic said he was pleased with the result : ” We gave a few youngsters an opportunity tonight – new players got their first minutes.

“For a lot of the players, it was the first time they’ve played in three and a half months. So it was good. Canberra did well. It was the perfect game for us and we (had) no injuries.
