Wenger hints that deals still on for big-name duo.

Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that he could still be in with a chance of signing either Luis Suarez from Liverpool or Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, according to the Daily Star.

Asked about his interest in the pair, the Frenchman told the press that they were “well informed”, and informed them of his plans to keep working on bringing new players to the club before the end of this summer’s transfer window.

Although Suarez appears to have made his peace with Liverpool, it is thought that he is still hoping to leave the club for Arsenal this summer, though it would likely take a bid of around £50million to secure his services.

Wenger denied that he is scared to spend money if it is for the good of Arsenal Football Club, and also seems ready to compete with Chelsea for the signing of Rooney, whose future has been up in the air all summer after he submitted a transfer request at Old Trafford.

United have said that the England international is not for sale for any price, but they appear to have made moves to signing Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o as a potential replacement for the 27-year-old.

Former Gunners defender Sol Campbell said earlier today that he believes his old club should pursue Rooney over Suarez, who he feels could be a disruptive presence at the Emirates Stadium.
