QPR Midfielder Esteban Granero has joined Real Sociedad on a season long loan, Sky Sports reports.

The 26-year-old only joined the Loftus Road outfit last summer in a reported £9 million deal from Real Madrid, but his experience at the very highest level could not help the club avoid relegation.

A statement from QPR read: “Esteban Granero has returned to Spain to join Real Sociedad on loan.

“The 26-year-old midfielder has penned a season-long loan deal with the La Liga outfit.

“Granero, of course, joined QPR from Real Madrid last summer and has since made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Rs, scoring one goal.

“The deal is subject to international clearance.”

The agreement also keeps a deal in place for the Spaniards to buy the player at the end of the season if all parties agree.

Sociedad confirmed Granero had passed a medical in London this afternoon and will travel to San Sebastian tomorrow ahead of his official presentation.

Granero originally made a name for himself in the Real Madrid C and B teams before moving to Getafe, originally on loan, in 2007. His good form there prompted Real to take another chance on him, but he was never able to get a strong foothold in the team and was shipped out to Rangers last summer where he went on to make 27 appearances, scoring once.
