Players that could leave United this summer, and potential replacements.
It has been a quiet summer transfer window for new Manchester United manager David Moyes, with more speculation than actual business going on. It seems unlikely to stay that way though, as the former Everton boss prepares for the big challenge of replacing Sir Alex Ferguson this season.
Although once looking like a top young talent when he joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon, Nani had a highly disappointing season in 2012/13, contributing very little to his side’s title win. In truth, his fellow wingers Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia also both had poor campaigns, failing to offer anywhere near enough goals and assists in their roles as attacking midfielders in the team, which is particularly surprising considering they had the prolific Robin van Persie to aim for upfront.
Somehow Nani is still at Old Trafford, despite being linked with a whole host of clubs all summer. Earlier in the transfer window a move to any one of Juventus, Monaco or Galatasaray looked likely, but nothing ever materialised. Most recently, the Portuguese winger has been linked with Serie A outfit Roma, who have undergone a massive overhauling of their squad this summer. A frustrating talent, Nani seems like he could do with a fresh start, and may find the slower and less physical game in Italy more to his liking.
