It wouldn’t be surprising if Southampton were simply a stepping stone on the way to bigger things for Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama, but for now the youngster looks like an excellent signing from Celtic for £12.5million. Still only 22, Wanyama had been atracting interest from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool this summer before moving to the Saints, and has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season. This big-name transfer is a sign of the growing ambition at St Mary’s, and it will be interesting to see the new highs Wanyama can fire the club to.
