The Italian has decided to keep faith with Diego Lopez, who was Madrid’s number one goalkeeper under Jose Mourinho last season, even when Casillias was available.
Iker Casillas has been left on the bench by Carlo Ancelotti in Real Madrid’s first match of the La Liga season, Goal.com reports.
It is the first league game for the club with Ancelotti in charge and many had predicted that Casillias would be restored as number one goalkeeper by the Italian.
However, Ancelotti has decided to keep faith with Diego Lopez, who sign for Madrid in January and was Jose Mourinho’s number one goalkeeper during the final months of last season.
Lopez had several fine performances for Madrid last season and stayed Mourinho’s number one despite Casillas returning to full fitness.
It seems that Ancelotti thinks that Lopez is better bet in goal than Casillas, who is a legend at Madrid and will probably won’t take Ancelotti’s decision badly
Ancelotti has also chosen to leave Xabi Alonso out of the Madrid starting line-up, which will increase the speculation that the Spaniard will leave Madrid before the end of the transfer window.
Alonso only has one year remaining on his contract with Madrid and has been linked with a move back to the Premier League.
