Tottenham have opened talks with Serie A side AS Roma regarding the transfer of highly-rated attacker Erik Lamela, according to the Metro.

The two clubs are begun negotiations for Lamela, as Spurs search for a potential Gareth Bale replacement. Following his move from River Plate, Lamela has impressed in Italy and is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in Europe, and Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is ready to break-the-bank to bring him to the Premier League.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Spurs will have to stump up £30million if they wish to sign the 21-year old Argentina attacker, who he sees as the perfect addition to his squad as they look to play a rotational 4-3-3 system, as he can play across the forward line. With 15 goals in 33 games last season for Roma, Lamela has proven he is capable of scoring at a high level, and potentially replace Gareth Bale’s production.

Roma are listening to offers for a number of their star players this summer, including Daniele De Rossi, Miralem Pjanic and Pablo Osvaldo. Bosnian international Pjanic and Italian striker Osvaldo are both also being tracked by Tottenham, as they look to break the £100million barrier this summer, having already brought in Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Roberto Soldado.

Spurs are looking at other potential wingers to replace Gareth Bale, and are interested in Anzhi Mackachkala forward Willian, who is available for £30million this summer, as well as Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen, Steau Bucharest central defender Vlad Chiriches and Dinamo Zagreb midfield prospect Alen Hilalovic.
