Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

The Daily Express claims that both Chelsea and Manchester United will hold face-to-face talks with Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o this week.

The 32-year-old, formerly of Barcelona, looks to be available for a bargain £5million as current club Anzhi undergo a wholesale clear-out towards the end of the summer transfer window.

It has been suggested that big-spending Monaco could also join the chase for Eto’o, though Chelsea will be favourites to land him after he admitted a desire to play under Jose Mourinho again.

The pair were successful together in their days at Inter Milan, winning the treble in the 2009/10 season before Mourinho departed for Real Madrid the following summer.

Now back at Chelsea, Mourinho has been strongly linked with a number of strikers all summer, and is thought to be considering Eto’o as a decent alternative to his first choice target Wayne Rooney.

Meanwhile, United could also try to sign Eto’o, in the event that they don’t manage to fight off Chelsea’s interest in unsettled forward Rooney.

Eto’o is currently the best-paid footballer in the world, and his £300,000-a-week wage demands could prove a stumbling block in a potential deal.
