Championship outfit Wigan Athletic want to take highly rated young Manchester United midfield player Nick Powell on a season-long loan for the upcoming campaign, according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

New Latics head coach Owen Coyle has reportedly been keeping close tabs on the promising England Under-21 international for some time now, and the Scot is understood to be hopeful of persuading his compatriot in the Old Trafford dugout of letting the 19-year-old move to the DW stadium on loan next season.

Powell, who is currently out injured, although he is expected to be back in action shortly, has only been at Old Trafford for just over a year now after originally arriving in the north west from Crewe Alexandra for a fee that could potentially rise to as much as £6 million depending on certain add ons.

And in his debut campaign with the Red Devils under previous boss Sir Alex Ferguson, the attacking midfield player managed to score his first-ever goal for the club in one of his six matches in total in all competitions, with that wonder strike ironically coming against Wigan in a 4-0 win in the Premier League at Old Trafford last September.
