Derby County manager Nigel Clough has moved to deny speculation of a £6million bid from Liverpool for exciting young midfielder Will Hughes, according to This Is Derbyshire.

The 18-year-old midfield playmaker is rated as one of the best up-and-coming young English talents, and has previously been linked with moves to Arsenal and Newcastle, as well as Spanish giants Barcelona, after drawing comparisons with world class midfield duo Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Many will have expected Hughes to make the step up to the Premier League this summer, and while Clough says he expects there to be speculation surrounding his star player, he insists the club have received no offers for him so far.

“There’s obviously speculation about Will Hughes flying around but we’ve had no bids or contact from anyone. Nothing has changed,” he said.

Liverpool are thought to be on the lookout for a creative midfielder, having failed in their efforts to land Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Christian Eriksen and Willian so far this summer, and manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to build a team of young players as well.

Hughes is one of two main English youngsters currently playing in the Championship and being talked up as a Premier League target, with Blackpool’s Tom Ince also on the radar of a number of top clubs this summer.
