Brazilian midfielder Willian has had a medical with Tottenham ahead of a £30 million move to White Hart Lane, Sky Sportsreports.

Spurs hope to sign the midfielder within a few days and hope to beat the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United to his signature.

The midfielder had reportedly been close to a move to Liverpool but Spurs have moved ahead of the Reds because of their willingness to pay the players club, Anzhi Makhachkala, a fee closer to their £30 million valuation.

Signing Willian would mean Spurs have broken their transfer record for the third time this summer, with the club having signed Paulinho for £17 million and Roberto Soldado for £26 million.

Spurs have also signed Etienne Capoue and Nacer Chadli, meaning the signing of Willian will put Spurs summer spending close to £100 million.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has been backed by plenty of funds this summer as the club try and break into the Premier League’s top four, something they failed to do last season.

Getting into the top four means qualification for next seasons Champions League, now a minimum requirement for Villas-Boas after Spurs summer outlay.
