Newcastle were thrashed 4-0 by Manchester City in their opening game of the Premier League season but Pardew believes some new signings will give his squad a big boast.

Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew thinks some new players need to be brought to the club so that his current players can be given a much needed boast, Goal.com reports.

The Magpies lost their first game of the new season in humiliating fashion, going down 4-0 to last years runners up Manchester City.

The clubs fans showed their anger after the game and urged the club to spend some money before the transfer window closes on September 2nd.

So far, the club have only signed French striker Loic Remy on loan from QPR and Pardew believes that some more new faces need to be added to his squad in order to re-vitalise the players he already has.

“A big player coming in boosts the group as well as the fans,” he told The Chronicle.

“I’m not going to say something that I don’t think is true and say, ‘oh, it’s not affecting them’.

“I think they’d like to see another striker come in the door.

“That’s something that hopefully will be done before the window shuts.”

The club have been linked with several players this summer, including French striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

However, the club have struggled to conclude those deals and face a race against time to improve their squad before the transfer window slams shut.
