Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal “have no chance” of signing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, Goal.com reports.

The Gunners had two bids for Suarez rejected by Liverpool, one worth £40 million plus £1 which was intended to activate a release clause in the Uruguayan’s contract.

Despite Suarez’s insistence that he should be sold, Liverpool stood firm and even made the striker train on his own as punishment for his actions in trying to force his way out of the club.

Suarez has since apologised to his team mates and returned to training with the first team, meaning Wenger has had to give up in his attempts at signing the striker.

“Yes,” Wenger told reporters when asked if a deal was dead. “Absolutely no chance of that.”

The Gunners boss has so failed to dip into the clubs reported £70 million transfer budget but after watching his side beat Fenerbache 3-0 in a Champions League play-off, he vowed to bring new additions to his squad before the transfer window closes.

“We tried to bring one in but we are working on that. You have to understand there is still a long way to go. The transfer market starts for me now and a lot of activity will happen between now and September 2.

“From August 21 until September 2 you have 12 days, so a lot will happen. It starts now.”
